Match Report- Scarborough Athletic (H)

Just two days on from an away defeat to Hebburn Town, King’s Lynn Town returned home to the Docherty Walks to face Scarborough Athletic, where they secured their first home win of the season, winning 3-1.

It was a slow start for both sides in the opening twenty minutes, with the best chance falling to the visitors as Kieron Weledji curled an effort towards the bottom-left corner. However, his effort took a deflection and just went wide of the post.

King’s Lynn Town were forced into an early change as Kwame Thomas came off injured, being replaced by Carlton Ubaezuonu.

Despite a quiet opening twenty minutes, the Linnets began to take control of the game, having good spells of possession but with very little to show for it in terms of chances.

Eventually, the chances did start coming for King’s Lynn as Harley Hamilton did well to use his strength to find space for a shot, which was deflected behind. From the resulting corner, Carlton Ubaezuonu went close with a header at the back post but could only find the side netting.

However, despite the Linnets’ dominance in possession, it was Scarborough who took the lead. Ethan Warne was caught in possession inside the box, allowing Mo Fadera to steal the ball away from him before blasting it past Hollingshead to shock the Docherty Walks.

The Linnets pushed for an equaliser as the first half drew to a close, with Ed Leach going close with an effort from range, but his shot bent around the post.

However, in the 44th minute, King’s Lynn were level as Jesse Nwabueze cut inside from the left wing and curled an effort from the edge of the area into the bottom corner to bring the Linnets level as the first half ended even.

The second half began, and the King’s Lynn dominance continued, as it didn’t take long for the Linnets to take the lead.

In the 52nd minute, a corner-kick routine allowed Michael Clunan a shooting opportunity, with his shot eventually being poked home by Carlton Ubaezuonu to give the Linnets’ number nine his first goal of the season, as well as giving the Linnets a well-deserved lead.

The Linnets should have made it three just five minutes later. Carlton Ubaezuonu sent Jesse Nwabueze through on goal, with the winger finding himself in acres of space. Nwabueze set himself but blasted the ball over the bar in what was a real opportunity to put the game to bed so early in the second half.

Despite this, the Linnets’ dominance continued, as Tom Scott went close after a nice solo run through the midfield before seeing his shot saved by the Scarborough goalkeeper.

Two minutes from time, however, the Linnets wrapped the game up as substitute Reece Hall-Johnson cut inside, beating not one but two players before making his way into the box and firing home to make sure all three points stayed in West Norfolk on Bank Holiday Monday.
