Back at home!

King’s Lynn Town take on Marine in our second home match of the new campaign on Saturday 21st August 2026.

For the Linnets, a fantastic 2-0 win away at Brackley on Tuesday night saw the Norfolk outfit record their first win of the new season, with the hope of going back-to-back, gaining momentum and getting three points in front of the Lynn faithful this weekend.

Going back to the win at Brackley, a strange own goal, which was created by Jesse Nwabueze down the left flank, saw the visitors take the lead 27 minutes into the first half. This was a game that was chalk and cheese compared to last Saturday’s defeat on the road to Chester. Build-up with intent, a threat going forward — a real difference from a few days prior.

The second half started slightly differently, as it was always going to, with Brackley piling on the pressure early doors. Lynn were able to soak up the pressure and then started to turn the tables, winning a foul on the left-hand side. Michael Clunan swung it into the area towards the back post, and Harley Hamilton was there to stick it past Harrison Rhone for Lynn’s second and cap off a fantastic away performance.

For Marine so far this season: three games, three losses, zero goals scored and four conceded. The Mariners won’t be travelling to the Docherty Walks full of confidence, but they certainly aren’t a side to turn your nose up at, especially under Bobby Grant. Last season, they had a lengthy run in the FA Trophy, where they made it to the semi-finals. From 10th January 2026 to 21st February 2026, they recorded four wins, four draws and two losses in a run where they went four matches unbeaten.

In the last four matches between the two sides, King’s Lynn Town and Marine, there have been three Lynn wins and one draw, with Marine unable to conquer the Linnets. This is a stat that will fill the home side with joy.

The last game for the Mariners saw them fall to defeat on home turf against Chorley, who recorded their first win of the season on that day. Two first-half goals for the Magpies saw them cruise to victory without facing any real threat or reply.

Now, I understand that this match preview isn’t painting the Mariners in much glory, but it’s early days in the new campaign. One win can change the next three or four matches, and if Marine can come to the Docherty Walks and cause a slight upset, then what a way it would be to get some points on the board for the new campaign.
